Chris Maker’s Film Response…

How did Marker perceive “the function of memory”? Explain your own thoughts on this idea and the role of images in our construction of self and our collective history.

Marker perceives the function of memory as away to travel through time. Well technically not necessarily that idea but that was the plot of his first film that we saw La Petite. Memory can be used as a strong marker in our lives as corner stones to our past. Meaning now matter how much we try to forget a certain memory in our lives, if it had a strong impression within our minds and in our lives, an influential factor it can be said to be then it changes who we are as a person. People tend to remember images alot more than individual memories or significant times periods in their lifetime. When i walk down the street and see something that catches my eye, it reminds me of a past time when that object was significant. Our past makes who we are today, our actions and actions done to us are significant in constructing our personas and generally make us a better or worse person. Make shows the significance of images as a part of our lives. No matter how much we try to believe that these images don’t influence our lives they will never disappear and we tend to dwell on them.
